The News:

  • Telco giant MTN has announced the existing Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTN Ghana, Selorm Adadevoh, as the new Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) of the Group, effective April 1, 2024.
  • Adadevoh will succeed Jens Schulte-Bockum, the Group’s outgoing Chief Operations Officer (COO).
  • Stephen Blewett, who was with MTN for seven years as CEO for MTN Benin and Cameroon, worked with Digicel Group — a Jamaican-based Caribbean mobile phone network — and recently rejoined MTN in July 2023, will take over from Adadevoh as he prepares to leave his current position.

Selorm Adadevoh joined the company in 2018 as CEO of MTN Ghana and has recorded impressive feats since he assumed his role. In February 2023, he won the MTN CEO of the Year award at the MTN Leadership Gathering conference in Johannesburg, South Africa. Besides, MTN Ghana won the Best Environmental Sustainable Governance (ESG) Award and the Best Rural Telephony Project.

Adadevoh”s previously held positions show he has been an active contributor to the digital industry. He has over 20 years of experience in telecoms and financial services, serving many African countries.

Before he joined MTN Ghana as CEO, he held key roles with industry firms like Digicel Group and Millicom/Tigo, a mobile telecommunications service provider. Positions he has held include CEO, COO, global director for mobile fintech services, and head of product.

Adadevoh seems to have earned the new appointment, given his feats as CEO of MTN Ghana and the experiences he has gained.

On the other hand, Schulte-Bockum has been with MTN for seven years and will continue as a non-executive director with the firm. His role as a director will cover MTN South Africa, MTN Nigeria, and Bayobab (formerly MTN GlobalConnect). According to MTN, he played a vital role in scaling the firm’s core connectivity business across services. However, his contract will end on March 31, 2024.

Assuming the new role, Adadevoh will take on all of the executive responsibilities held by the outgoing COO, Jens Schulte-Bockum. Also, the firm notes that the new appointment aligns with MTN’s Group Operating Model.

Following the announcement, Ralph Mupita, the MTN Group CEO, expressed that he looks forward to their continued input towards the delivery of the firm’s “Ambition 2025 strategy.”
