The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has refuted claims circulating across social media outlets claiming the release of a comprehensive list detailing ex-governors under investigation for corruption by the anti-graft agency.

The EFCC, which vehemently denied its authenticity, said that the alleged list is a “phantom report.”

The report, titled “EFCC Releases Full List of 58 Ex-Governors that Embezzled N2.187 Trillion,” was dismissed by the EFCC as baseless and misleading.

The Commission said in a statement that it has not issued any such list nor engaged in discussions regarding the investigation of former governors with any media organisation.

Emphasizing the fabricated nature of the purported list, the EFCC cautioned the public against accepting the information as accurate.

Furthermore, the Commission urged the media to exercise diligence in verifying facts related to ongoing investigations to prevent the dissemination of false information.

As the EFCC continues its mission to combat financial crimes and uphold transparency, the anti-graft agency underscores the importance of responsible journalism and accurate reporting to maintain public trust and confidence in the fight against corruption.
