As Zamfara State gears up to commence the state-wide vaccination against the polio virus, the Primary Health Care Board has appealed to parents and guardians to make their children available

The Executive Secretary of the board, Dr Hussaini Yakubu, made the call on Monday in Gusau at a one-day media sensitisation meeting for the upcoming routine immunisation exercise scheduled to commence on December 14.

Yakubu, who was represented by the Deputy Director of Administration of the board, Suwaiba Lawal noted that vaccinated children have a high chance of living a healthy and longer life.

According to him, the vaccines are safe and free of charge and implored residents to support and make the exercise successful.

Calling on fathers to get involved in taking their children for vaccination, he described the meeting as timely considering the role of the media in sensitising people on the significance of immunisation exercise.

Also speaking, a UNICEF official, Kulu Sanda, urged media practitioners to redouble their efforts in enlightening parents and the public on the importance of routine immunisation.

He emphasised that immunisation is free and further called on parents to allow their children to receive the immunization.

Earlier, the Health Educator of the board, Kabiru Danja, said the aim of the meeting was to interact with the media and review routine immunisation exercises in the state.

He appealed to media practitioners to continue supporting immunisation programmes and other primary healthcare activities in the state.
