Earlier, Iran capitalized on a late Wales red card and scored a pair of goals in stoppage time en route to a 2-0 victory and three points in Group B, while Senegal earned a 3-1 win over Qatar and three points in Group A. Elsewhere, the Netherlands battled Ecuador to a 1-1 draw, earning one point each in Group A for their efforts.

Both teams came out strong. Harry Kane was this close to getting England on the board early, but his shot was narrowly blocked by U.S. defender Walker Zimmerman.

Haji Wright nearly put the U.S. in the lead with this header, but his attempt came up short and things remained scoreless early in the first half.

Shortly after, Weston McKennie missed another chance for the U.S. as the first half continued.

As the competition continued to heat up on the field, the sports world took notice of the lack of yellow cards shown through the half-hour mark, specifically when no card was given for this challenge on USMNT defender Antonee Robinson.
It’s worth nothing that no England players received a yellow card in their opening match against Iran.
