The 2022 FIFA World Cup continued Saturday on FOX with the Netherlands defeating the United States 3-1 at Khalifa International Stadium in Doha, Qatar in the tournament’s first match of the round of 16.
The Dutch will play Argentina, which defeated Australia on Saturday, in the quarterfinals on Dec. 9 (11 a.m. ET, FOX).

3′: Early for the USMNT!
Christian Pulisic nearly gave the USMNT an early lead but wasn’t able to connect.
10′: Goal! Netherlands strikes first
Memphis Depay drove a shot from the center of the box to the bottom left corner to give the Dutch a 1-0 lead early.
That goal gave him sole possession of second place on the all-time scoring list for the Netherlands with 43 goals.
43′: Laser of a strike almost evens score!
Tim Weah drilled a shot on goal, but it was saved, and the Netherlands maintained a 1-0 lead.
45’+1′: Dutch knock in goal in stoppage time
Denzel Dumfries got his second assist on a shot from Daley Blind that found the back of the net, giving the Dutch a 2-0 lead.
49′: So close!
Pulisic delivered a cross to the middle of the box and Weston McKennie just missed with the header.
54′: Just a little high!
Then, McKennie nearly nailed the USMNT its first goal, but the shot was high from the top of the box.
60′: First yellow card is awarded
Teun Koopmeiners was shown a yellow card for a bad foul on Pulisic at the one-hour mark.
71′: What a save!
USMNT keeper Matt Turner kept the deficit at two goals with two point-blank saves right in front of the net.
75′ So close!
Haji Wright had a shot from a difficult angle on the right, but it was blocked.
76′: USMNT is on the board!
Pulisic had a pass into the box deflected by Wright, and it found the back of the net!
81′: Dutch with an answer
Shortly after, Blind sent one into the box and Dumfries kicked it past Turner to give the Netherlands a 3-1 lead late in the second half — and ultimately the win by the same score.
