South Africa’s MTN Group took its biggest bet on Nigeria, Mr Michael Ikpoki, former MTN Nigeria CEO, has told Technology Times while reviewing the past 22 years of commercial rollout of GSM networks in the country. 

In the exclusive interview with Technology Times, Mr Ikpoki, now African Context Advisory Partners CEO, was former CEO of MTN Ghana and MTN Nigeria, provides an insider’s perspectives, insights and experiences related to Nigeria’s mobile revolution, and its impact on various sectors of the economy to be featured as part of “Nigeria’s Mobile Revolution: 22 Years On” Special Report by Technology Times.

Technology Times is publishing a special report on “Nigeria’s Mobile Revolution: 22 Years On” to showcase the rapid transformation from the August 2001 commercial rollout of digital mobile telephony service across the country, that will be available on its official website on www.technologytimes.ng.  

The revolution, which has seen the country’s mobile phone lines grow from over 500,000 lines in 2001 to over 220,086,951 lines in June 2023, has also impacted several sectors of the Nigerian economy.

Mr Ikpoki, an African Business leader, who is now focused on adapting his skills and experience to advise investors and leaders in “shaping Africa’s most impactful businesses” offers suggestions on Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu’s Digital Economy Plan, strategies to unlock investments across the telecoms value chain and advice for leaders to drive the industry’s future.
