The quest by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to be recognized in the Guinness Book of World Records over reforms initiated by him since assumption of office is a misplaced venture, says former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Timi Frank, in reaction to the Nigerian president’s comment in that regard while speaking in Germany.

Tinubu, who emerged as president under the banner of the APC, had while addressing an audience at the 10th German-Nigerian Business Forum, in Germany, said: “Nigeria voted for me for reforms and from day one of my inauguration, I started the reforms. To me, if you didn’t mention me in the Guinness Book of Records, I’d strive to find a way to insert myself because I did it without expectation.”

But Frank, in a press release, insisted that the only world record the Nigerian leader has so far set is inflicting severe economic pains and unbearable hardship on the people.

He pointed to the removal of fuel subsidies as a prime example of Tinubu’s misguided policies. He argued that this decision has led to a surge in fuel prices, causing widespread hardship among ordinary Nigerians.

Moreover, Frank highlighted the negative impact of Tinubu’s policies on the nation’s currency, with the exchange rate soaring from N600 per dollar to over N1,000 per dollar since his inauguration.

Frank further criticised Tinubu’s efforts to attract foreign investment, asserting that no investor will be willing to invest in Nigeria under his leadership due to his questionable character and the negative records he has set.

Frank, who is the United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP) ambassador to East Africa and the Middle East, also questioned Tinubu’s claims of having worked for Deloitte, which the company has denied.

He said: “He claimed that he had removed fuel subsidy, but fuel is still being subsidised by his administration even though the people now languish under the burden of astronomical increases in the pump price of fuel and other essential petroleum products. He claimed that he worked for Deloitte but Deloitte has since denied having his employment records.

Frank concluded by calling for a protest against Tinubu’s administration, emphasising the need to resist and stop the “illegalities and deception” that have characterised his presidency. He also urged Nigerians to mobilise both locally and in the diaspora to make their voices heard and demand a change in direction.
