The late Dr Ameyo-Stella Adadevoh’s memory was recently honoured with a free medical outreach organized by the Nigeria Medical Association, Federal Capital Territory Chapter, in the Jahi community.

Adadevoh was the physician who discovered the Liberian, Patrick Sawyer, who first arrived in Nigeria with Ebola disease in 2014.

The physician died on August 19, 2014, while trying to stop the spread of the disease.

Speaking during the medical outreach, the National President of NMA, Dr Uche-Rowland Ojinmah, explained that the doctors were at the Jahi community to take care of the residents.

He noted that the development of communities should not rest solely on the government calling on individuals to help the government in their little ways.

“We came today to contribute something to the development of this country. It should not always be about our complaining of bad government.

“If you do your part and I do my part, Nigeria will be better. We hold our meeting every four months. We usually carry out an outreach before the commencement of our meeting.

“We are grateful to the district head of Jahi for receiving us. Some communities usually demand money or settlement before allowing us to carry out an outreach in their community.

“Therefore, we are grateful for being allowed to take care of the medical needs of this community without paying a dime, we will do our best for the community. We beg all of you to be orderly and do things in order.

“The doctors will not leave until they attend to everyone here. Therefore, we pray for God to help us for our medicine to work for the people here,” Ojinmah said.

The Chairman of NMA-FCT, Dr Charles Ugwuanyi, said Jahi was chosen strategically for the outreach to make a strong statement that doctors have a passion for the well-being of individuals.

He said, “It is strategic that we chose Jahi. We want to make a statement that the NMA has a passion for the well-being of Nigerians.

“We will render eye services, dental services, Ear, Nose and Throat services and general services for the residents.”

The Chairman of the medical outreach sub-committee, Dr Uche Aniebue, said the NMA decided to tag the medical outreach in memory of the late Adadevoh, to give back to society because the doctor died while on active service.

The Chief of the Jahi community, Mr Adamu Dogo, while appreciating the doctors, described the medical outreach as one of its kind.

He thanked the doctors for finding the Jahi community worthy of the exercise, especially at a challenging period in the country and with the high cost of medical services.
