Lagos State Government has said it is inspecting sagging and dropped cables in the Lekki area from staring from today as part of a full-scale enforcement in parts of the state.

The three-day enforcement lasting April 23-25 was announced by the Lagos State Infrastructure Maintenance and Regulatory Agency (LASIMRA), comes amid a similar one carried out in the Agege area by the agency.

LASIMRA said that the inspection would be in the Lekki axis specifically areas such as Lekki 1 and 2, Ikate and its environs, in a public notice issued to telecoms operators about its full scale enforcement inspection on sagging and dropped cables.

“This enforcement effort is critical to ensuring the safety of residents and maintaining the integrity of our infrastructure,” LASIMRA said.

A recent inspection in the Agege area earlier this month uncovered authorised cables, prompting LASIMRA to take action. This has now shifted their attention to the Lekki Area.

Earlier this month, the agency emphasised the importance of obtaining its approval before making any changes to government infrastructure. LASIMRA further explained that it is so to ensure that projects are carried out in accordance with its regulatory requirements, and to promote the safety and sustainability of public infrastructure.

About LASIMRA

LASIMRA was established under Lagos state Government Law No.13 in July and published in the official gazette No.23 volume 37 dated August 27, 2004 by the then Governor Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The agency is tasked with the regulating utility infrastructure across the state.

The agency’s jurisdiction cuts across oil and gas, fibre-optics, telecom masts and towers, water cables, electricity (over and underground) companies across Lagos.
