Hello {{contact.first_name|there}},

Ogheneruemu here.

Your usual host, Victoria, called in sick yesterday and I’m doing a hostile takeover filling in for her today, with a little help from Chimgozirim and Bolu.

An interesting headline caught my eye yesterday. It seems we are edging closer to a TikTok ban in the US. The Senate has passed a bill that could force the Chinese platform into a sale or risk a permanent banishment.

Although the bill has yet to receive President Biden’s assent, there’s quite a bit to unpack here. What happens to the over 102 million American users who use the platform as a source of income, a way to connect to followers, or for any other reason?

In other news, yesterday, Victoria told you about Thepeer and its investors’ plans to audit the now defunct startup.

On this week’s episode of the Techpoint Africa Podcast, our reporters will be joined by Rosemond Phil-Othihiwa, Corporate and Startup Lawyer, as they discuss what went wrong and investor roles in these sort of situations.
