Web giant Google has signed a 12-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with German developer Ib Vogt for output from the 149MW Garnacha solar plant in the Spanish province of Zamora.

The developer started construction of the project near the city of Toro in northwestern Spain in September after receiving €90m ($93.4m) in long-term project financing by Norddeutsche Landesbank Girozentrale and Santander Corporate & Investment Banking, and plans to begin operations by October next year.

“We are delighted to work with Ib Vogt to add new clean energy to the grid while significantly improving Google’s carbon footprint in Spain,” said Marc Oman, infrastructure & energy principal at Google.
