GIS: Women own highest number of CofOs in Kwara

Women own the highest number of Certificates of Occupancy (CofO) issued in Kwara State as of 2017, geographic information system (GIS) data gathered across the state has revealed. 

The GIS report released by the Kwara State Geographic Information Service (KW-GIS) reveals that 14.95% of the CofOs issued in 2017 were female-owned, a development that also underscores Kwara State Government’s efforts to embrace technology for development planning.

According to the KW-GIS report, “2017 had the highest sum of number of CofO issued that are female-owned at 83, followed by 2016 and 2020. 2013 had the lowest sum of number of CofO issued that are female-owned at 34. 2017 accounted for 14.95% of sum of number of CofO issued that are female-owned.”

According to reports, Nigeria’s rural areas with lower economic status, only 10.1% of women have access to land, compared to 46.1% of men. In urban areas, the situation is even more imperative as only 4.5% of women are able to own land, while 49.5% of men have access to land ownership.

KW-GIS issued its latest statistics for the Certificate of Occupancy covering the period from January 1, 2012, to December 31, 2021, according to information gathered from the Kwara State website.

According to reports, Nigeria’s rural areas with lower economic status, only 10.1% of women have access to land, compared to 46.1% of men. In urban areas, the situation is even more imperative as only 4.5% of women are able to own land, while 49.5% of men have access to land ownership.

KW-GIS, said 2014 was the year that saw the highest number of CofO issued and digitized between 2012 and 2021 – a staggering 657 that underscores the benefits of digitizing and indexing your CofO records for streamlined management and quick access by the government.

“At 657, 2014 had the highest sum of number of CofO digitized and indexed in a digital archive and was 162.80% higher than 2013, which had the lowest sum of number of CofO digitized and indexed in a digital archive at 250,” KW-GIS said.

Furthermore, the report indicates that in 2017, 14.95% of the Certificates of Occupancy issued were female-owned or co-owned.

According to CKW-GIS, “2017 accounted for 14.95% of sum of No of CofO issued that are female-owned. Sum of No of CofO issued that are female owned and sum of No of CofO issued that are joined/co-owned diverged the most when the year was 2017, when sum of No of CofO issued that are female-owned were 83.”
