The Chief Executive Officer, Wakanow.com Nigeria, Adenike Macaulay, says her organisation is committed to achieving gender equality, empowering women, youth and girls. She noted that gender equality and women empowerment are part of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 5.

Macaulay said that her company is also committed to achieving the SDG 8, which is to promote and sustain inclusive economic growth and productive decent employment for all.
According to her, the travel agency is empowering the youths and women that are aspiring to be entrepreneurs and promoting gender equality in Nigeria through its CSR programme, Wakacares.

She revealed this during the second phase of the company’s ‘Skill Upinitiative’ aimed at training members of the Women in Management, Business and Public Service on business opportunities in the travel industry and skills to start a travel business.

According to the United Nations, gender equality is not only a fundamental human right, but a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world.
The UN noted that this goal has been in progress over the last decades, but the world is not on track to achieve gender equality by 2030.

“At Wakanow.com Nigeria, we believe that empowering women and fostering economic growth are pivotal to societal development. We see this as a responsibility, and our CSR programme is designed to make a meaningful impact,” Macaulay stated.

She noted that the launch of the programme in May was part of the company’s commitment to engaging and empowering communities while aligning its CSR initiatives with the SDGs.

She added that the initiative represents a significant step forward in the company’s dedication to making a positive impact on society.

Also speaking, the company’s Vice President, Commercials, Shola Ipinmoroti, said, “Empowering women is not just about transforming individuals, it is about transforming entire families and society by extension.”

She noted that the WIMBIZ training event attracted dozens of participants in person, while others participated virtually.

One of the trainees, who won tablet devices to enable them to set up their travel businesses with Wakanow.com’s white label technology, Oluwatoyin Kayode said, “I was really looking forward to this event and I wasn’t disappointed.

“I am new to travel booking and this event came at the right time and gave me the knowledge and a launching pad for the business. I look forward to partnering with this company as I evolve in the travel industry.

“I am super excited about winning the tablet device. It wasn’t expected but it was a welcome cherry on top of a great event.”

Similarly, Nike Adetutu, who expressed happiness about having a second stream of income from the travel industry, said, “I would never have thought one can run a travelling agency as a side hustle and make cool cash from it. The knowledge about being an affiliate, the benefits are super amazing and I really can’t wait to start making money via this opportunity.

“As for the tablet device that I won, I did not believe it at all and I am still surprised. I would like to say a very big thank you to Wakanow.com Nigeria. I truly appreciate it.”
