Getting quick justice for victims of various sexual assaults would help to deter the antisocial behaviours among citizens, the Ogun State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Adijat Adeleye has said.

According to her, victims of victims of sexual and gender-based violence deserve to be heard and their cases given accelerated hearing.

According to a statement, Adeleye said this when she paid a visit to the Ogun State Chief Judge, Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu, in her office to seek assistance to get quick justice for SGBV victims.

The Commissioner commended the Chief Judge for the pedestal of the judicial service of the state in the implementation of laws, dispensation of justice and protection of the constitution, explaining that the purpose of the visit was to plead for a prompt response on cases of SGBV and family matters while seeking for due diligence in the adoption process.

“Adeleye who advocated for a special court for SGBV cases as the only way a survivor could get justice, also said there should be documentation of sexual assault offenders to serve as a deterrent to others,” the statement read.

It was noted that the Chief Judge, Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu, reiterated the Judiciary’s commitment to ensuring that necessary legal advice and support are provided through legal aids, to ensure the rights of individuals are protected, while setting standards for equitable enforcement of the law, to reduce societal vices.

Explaining the delay of some cases on SGBV and family matters, Justice Dipeolu urged Social Welfare Officers to brace up to their duties and endeavour to enlighten parents, relatives and witnesses on the need to stand by the survivors during court proceedings, as it is the only way a victim could get justice.

Justice Dipeolu pointed out that loose ends should be tightened and due diligence carried out at both the judicial and ministry for the safety and welfare of children when it comes to child adoption cases,
