The Anambra State Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Agency has announced a week-long initiative to raise awareness about cybersecurity in the state.
The Anambra State Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Agency is led by Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata, CEO of the agency who took to his X page to educate users on the importance of cybersecurity and the critical role employee training plays in organisational defence.
Agbata, who highlighted the growing sophistication of cyberattacks explained that human error poses a major challenge. However, by prioritising employee awareness and training, a well-informed workforce can significantly reduce the risk of human error and strengthen an organisations defence, he said.
He also explained that prioritising cybersecurity awareness offers several key advantages for businesses. A well-trained workforce minimises the impact of human error on an organisation’s security measures. This translates to fewer data breaches, system outages, and financial losses.
Proactive cybersecurity measures also demonstrate a commitment to protecting client and partner data, Agbata noted explaining that this builds trust and confidence, potentially leading to increased business opportunities and a stronger reputation. Investing in employee training equips them with valuable cybersecurity skills, he said.
To mitigate these challenges, Agbata offered specific recommendations for businesses to improve their cybersecurity:
