The LangEasy app, Nigeria’s first multilingual large language model (LLM), launched on April 19 has been introduced for use, a development that its promoters describe as a significant step forward in shaping the future of AI in Nigeria.

Nigeria’s first LLM, LangEasy, developed by Awarri Tech in partnership with DataDotOrg, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), and the National Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (NCAIR), was launched after the just-concluded National Artificial Intelligence Strategy (NAIS) workshop.

The use and participation in the language app help shape the future of AI in Nigeria, according to the promoters of LangEasy.

The LangEasy app is primarily designed to collect high-quality Nigerian language data to fuel the development of some of the most sophisticated AI models. It aims to preserve, contribute to, and empower linguistic heritage, especially in an evolving world of technology.

After its launch, it was announced that LLM will be trained on five low-resource languages and accented English to ensure stronger language representation in existing datasets for the development of Artificial Intelligence solutions, which will also be supported by over 7,000 fellows from the 3-Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme.

Additionally, the LangEasy app is accessible from any device, whether a computer or mobile phone, to enable the contribution to the most robust Nigerian large language model.
