President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Dr. James Omietimi as Chief Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, for an initial term of four years.

He also reappointed Prof Sa’ad Ahmed as Chief Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre, Abuja, for a second term of four years.

The President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, disclosed this in a statement he signed Thursday titled, ‘President Tinubu appoints Chief Medical Directors of two Federal Medical Centres.’

Omietimi graduated from the University of Port Harcourt in 1994 with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree and began his medical career with a specialisation in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

A fellow of the West African College of Surgeons and the International College of Surgeons, he was one-time President of the Association of Resident Doctors and Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association in Bayelsa State.

Meanwhile, Ahmed, a Professor of Pathology at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, concurrently serves as the Chief Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre, Abuja, for four years during his initial tenure.

He holds fellowships from the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, the International College of Surgeons, the College of American Pathologists, and the Central East and Southern Africa College of Pathology (South Africa).

The President expects the newly appointed Chief Medical Directors to “leverage their vast experience and professional competence to facilitate the consistent delivery of quality healthcare services to all Nigerians,” said Ngelale.

The presidential spokesman said this is in tandem with the Renewed Hope Agenda of ensuring that federal government hospitals deliver world-class, people-centred services in accordance with best industry practice.
