The Federal Government has reassured that its 3MTT programme will create three million tech jobs nationwide in line with President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s agenda.

The 3MTT programme, which was flagged off November 15 by the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy (FMCIDE) was designed as a three-phase selection process to display a pipeline of technical talents.

Dr. Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, said that 3MTT, which was conceived in line with President Tinubu’s vision of creating 2 million digital jobs by 2025, has gone through its first cohort heading to the second soon.

3MTT: 30,000 cohorts make first batch

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) in collaboration with the FMCIDE has released the first cohort list of successful candidates of the programme in which 30,000 individuals, representing 1% of the overall target were selected across the 36 states including FCT, to be trained from 0-3 months.

They were selected, NITDA said, having shown interest in specific skills such as UI/UX Design, Animation, AI/Machine Learning, Cyber Security and others. The cost of their training is to be funded by the organisers of 3MTT as well as possible placement of the trainees.

The Ministry and NITDA employed a strategy called 1-10-100 in training candidates. This means that “the first batch will train 1% of candidates, then they will go ahead to train 10% of the candidates and then finally they will train 100% of candidates. Hence, 1-10-100. Since the target number of candidates to train is 3 million, 1% of 3 million is 30,000. so this first batch will train only 30,000 candidates.”

However, they said, “the next batch, 3MTT will shortlist 10%, which will amount to three hundred thousand candidates (300, 000). If you’re not on this batch, hopefully, you’ll be on the next. Even so, if you’re not on the next batch, be rest assured you’ll be on the third batch where NITDA will deploy heavy resources to train the remaining candidates.”

“The 3MTT initiative is cultivating a powerhouse of tech-savvy minds through its Community Managers, unleashing a wave of skilled professionals ready to make their mark on the world” according to NITDA.

Dr. Tijani, Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, alongside, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, Director General of NITDA, engaged the 3MTT Community Managers during their 2- days Orientation Programme to equip them with technical prowess, leadership and community-building skills.

“In a world where there is pressure on resources and the need to invest extensively in developmental activities,” NITDA said, “it is our responsibility to ensure that public budgets are put to optimal use while driving maximum output. To this end, the 1 – 10 -100 framework offers us a robust opportunity to touch lives and strengthen our economy while reducing the cost of quality.”

The second cohort is however still in view, which will hopefully commence soon for the duration from 3-12 months cutting across the 36 states with the FCT included, according to NITDA, which said that the end of this cohort will usher the start of the third.
