Every year, Google releases an affordable version of the Pixel smartphone, like the Pixel 6a, Pixel 5a, etc. The successor to this “Pixel a” lineup, the Pixel 7a, is reportedly launching next year. However, Google is already working on releasing the new mid-range Pixel. The new mid-range Pixel is expected to bring a better camera, the Google Tensor G2 chip, and a 90Hz display for the first time.
Pixel fans are wondering when the device will launch and its price. This article will discuss the release date, specifications, and expected price of the Pixel 7a in the US. So, without further ado, let’s begin.
Google Pixel 7a Release Date
- The Google Pixel 7a might be released in May 2023.
There is no official information on the launch date of the Google Pixel 7a. However, we can speculate the release date based on past launches. The Google Pixel 7a could be released in May 2023. To recap, the Google Pixel 6a was launched in May 2022, and the Google Pixel 5a was launched in August 2021. Therefore, we can also expect the Google Pixel 7a to launch around the same time frame.
You can also register your interest in the Google Pixel 7a announcement on Amazon. If this is not Amazon’s typing mistake, then Pixel 7a’s launch is around the corner. Nevertheless, it might be too early to speculate on the release date. We will have to wait to get more accurate information on the same.
Google Pixel 7a Specifications
While the launch of the Google Pixel 7a is still unknown, the specifications have surfaced on the web for a while now. While these are not confirmed or official specifications, it is pretty much what we will get to see with the final product.
According to a recent report, the Google Pixel 7a is codenamed “Lynx”. Also, the report suggests that the Google Pixel 7a will be a major upgrade and a more premium device than the previous “Pixel a” phones.
So, what premium features and upgrades can we expect? As per a report by 9to5Google, the Google Pixel 7a will come with a new flagship camera, ceramic body, wireless charging and more. The report makes some bold claims never heard of.
For instance, the report claims that the Google Pixel 7a will feature a triple camera setup, including a 50MP primary sensor, a 13MP ultra-wide sensor, and a 64MP telephoto lens. The report also says that the 13MP ultra-wide sensor will also be used on the front. This seems unrealistic as the telephoto sensor has always been reserved for the Pixel “Pro.” It is improbable that Google would ever give a telephoto lens to the Pixel 7a. A more realistic camera setup would be the same as the Pixel 7.
The report also claims that the Pixel 7a would have wireless charging capped at 5W and a ceramic body. Again, these claims are very far from reality. This is because the Pixel 7a is a trimmed-down version of the Pixel 7, and it will not have features that the Pixel 7 doesn’t. A more realistic approach would be faster wired charging and a plastic back with a metal frame. However, Google could do the unexpected and launch the Pixel 7a with these features.
The Pixel 7a will likely carry a similar design to the Pixel 7 and the Pixel 7 Pro. As for the display, we can expect a 90Hz OLED screen this time. The community and fans heavily criticized the 60Hz display on the Pixel 6a. We hope that Google takes note here and upgrades the display to at least a 90Hz refresh rate.
Coming to the chipset, we will likely see the Google Tensor G2 chip inside the Google Pixel 7a. For instance, the Pixel 6a has the same Google Tensor chip as its flagship brothers, Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro. The battery size and the charging shall remain the same.
Here is the expected specs sheet for Google Pixel 7a
- 90Hz OLED Screen.
- Google Tensor G2 chip.
- 50MP main camera.
- 13MP front camera.
- 6GB RAM and 128GB/256GB storage.
- 4410mAh battery with 18W fast charging.
- Android 13.
Google Pixel 7a Price in the US
- The Google Pixel 7a might be priced at $449 in the US.
There is a lot of uncertainty about the US price of the Google Pixel 7a. This is mainly because the Pixel 7a is said to have features that the Pixel 7 and even the flagship Pixel 7 Pro doesn’t. If what 9to5Google claims are true, the Pixel 7a could cross the $700 price tag in the US. However, it is doubtful Google would do anything like that.
With the Pixel “a series”, Google aims at the mid-range segment, and we are expecting the trend to continue with the Google Pixel 7a. Assuming that the Pixel 7a will be a trimmed-down version of the Pixel 7, we can expect it to be priced at around $449 in the US.
