NITDA rolls out Abuja’s Smart City Blueprint

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has unveiled the Abuja Smart City Strategic Roadmap that will chart a pathway for leveraging technology for the development of Nigeria’s capital city.

The Abuja Smart City Strategic Roadmap was unveiled at the 2nd Nigeria Data Expo & Conference, organized by IOSAFE Nigeria and Havel Corporate Concept Limited, NITDA says in a statement. The event, held at the Shehu Musa Yar Adua Centre, highlighted the pivotal role of data in transforming Abuja into a smart city.

Kashifu Inuwa, the Director-General of NITDA, represented by Mr. Oladejo Olawumi, Director of the IT Infrastructure and Services Department, emphasized the critical importance of data in driving the efficiency and functionality of smart cities.

He says that “emerging technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, Robotics, etc, which form the backbone of a smart city, are oiled by data.”

The NITDA boss also details efforts of the tech agency in creating a supportive environment for smart city development in Nigeria. Inuwa highlights the agency’s initiatives to ensure inclusive access to digital infrastructure and services, as well as its commitment to building a strong technology research ecosystem.
