A Chinese spacecraft has returned to Earth after conducting plant mutation tests.

The satellite spent two weeks in orbit to conduct the test as the nation looks to space to improve its agricultural harvests.

The China National Space Administration (CNSA) said in a statement on Monday that Shijian-19, the country’s first reusable satellite, landed at the Dongfeng landing site close to the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in the Gobi Desert.

The satellite carried returnable payloads such as seeds from different sites to test plant and microbe reproduction in space.

After the spaceship touched down, all of the payloads were recovered.

According to Chinese officials, the mission focused on encouraging the development and implementation of new space technologies and conducted space breeding, new technology verification, and space research experiments.

“This mission carried out space breeding, new technology verification, and space science experiments, and focused on promoting the development and application of new space technologies.

“At the same time, it carried several international cooperation payloads and became a good platform to promote international space cooperation, which is of great significance to promoting space exploration and space utilization,” the statement added.
